As of every month Light.Func covers different events relating to what we do... My guess is that most of you already know what it is that we do, but if you are new and unfamiliar, we are a boutique architectural lighting design studio with an astonishing eye for creativity and detail.
Getting there was not easy, considering it was 120 miles away, driving down the M1 which is half filled with road works and 50mph speed limits, but I was not going to miss out on such an important lighting event and one of the biggest in Europe... AAAGGHHH LONDON! Just when I thought I was done venting out my frustration on that part of the journey, oh boy was I wrong! If you know the city of London, then you know finding parking space is another headache and a half. After spending 20minutes looking for a bay, I was amused to have finally found free parking for the whole day (a smug smirk on my face)! That should keep accounts happy!
On arrival, I stopped and stared at the transparent glass ceiling natural light seeping in, above it patches of clouds and blue sky. It really emphasised visually what our principal always talks about; the importance of integrating daylight in to the built environment and the effect it has on the emotions we feel.
All LED was the first stand I visited and was received with a warm welcome from one of their team. After spending some time familiarising myself with their fixtures, what stood out the most to me was their display of decorative wall lights and the way in which they were arranged. We exchanged contacts and continued with my quest.
One thing’s for sure, two things for certain; Aurora went all out. They had a BMW i8 on display in the middle of the seminar, perfectly illuminated and really looking like the thing of beauty as it was. I remember this part of my lighting introduction! Colour rendering anyone (smile boss!)? The quality of their universal range and the AU-UNIF862 adjustable downlight, which had an IP65 rating and is also fire-proof was very impressive. It also had interchangeable bezels available in white, matt white, polished chrome and satin nickel and fitted with an insulation cover cap. The number of times clients want different finishes, they were not short on choice! There was a lot of booths to visit, contacts to explore and hands to shake, so I did not hang around for too long. Without knowledge and curious minds, our creativity will be lost!
I am always on the look-out for the largest booths at all the events I visit! We all have this perception that bigger is better and so with no further ado; The award for the biggest booth and installation must go out to Astro. They displayed their fixtures very well and the sales manager’s product knowledge was captivating to say the least. I really liked their brass wall lights and what made them extra special was the ten-year warranty they come with.
This time around I had the chance to speak to everyone from the stands I visited, which was certainly insightful and inspiring giving me loads to feedback to the design team. I also had a lengthy and insightful conversation with the commercial manager of Elmark Group LTD, Mr Boris Hristov, regarding the Saudi Arabia’s current projects and general challenges within the GCC construction projects. Although somewhat concerning, Elmark’s decorative fixtures proved a welcome distraction. The one that stood out amongst all of them was this beautiful chandelier. Maybe I’m slight biased, but I do have a soft spot for chandeliers.
We live in a world of LED lighting and LED strips are especially important to architectural lighting. I met Michael Mondos of LED FLEX who gave me an excellent product demo. Being in marketing, I’m not normally present during product demos within our office. Therefore, it was great to have had a first-hand experience with their micro neon range. I was amazed how slim it was at 10mm as well as the flexibility it had.
The only way to appreciate lighting is by receiving a comprehensive tutorial of it, so thank you Mr Shane Chadwick, Regional Manager of GAP lighting for taking time to walk me through the different fixtures and enhancing my experience at the event. Did you know that I am still only a 17-month old Light.Funcer? and learning is something I enjoy, I truly felt en-light-ened! Mr Chadwick left me in awe whilst demo-ing the T-RGB-CCT touch remote that can change the wall light's colour temperature as well as the beam angle simultaneously from a distance. I was certainly sold and literally would have purchase it without delay.
Credit where credit is due, Personally Luxlive provided an intimate experience with different manufactures. It was great interacting with products on a one to one basis. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Luxlive and cannot wait for the upcoming events, thank you for hosting us.
As we always say… Everyone has a journey… Ours is light.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
